RefuSHE: Educational Materials

in 2021 Nairobi base NGO RefuSHE contracted trauma expert Rachael Miller LCPC, NCC, EMDR-C, EAC and myself to create a workshop that could be taught to refugees explaining the impact of traumatic events and the trauma response on the body.

This included many graphics, illustrations, and visual representations of complex concepts.

The presentation was in both English and Swahili.

The workshop included several handouts and worksheets.

Care was taken through to ensure the images could convey their ideas without triggering the attendees. All of whom had experienced traumatic events due to war and civil uprising.

This included careful use of colors and ensuring things like weapons and guns were unloaded and in a non-threatening position.
